Character Info:
Name: Mitsuo Kubo
Age: 15
Canon: Persona 4
Pull Point: Just as he's being thrown into the TV. Instead of waking up in the TV world, he'll show up in Prospero. Since he didn't know anything about Shadows or Persona until after he ended up in the TV, this should fulfill that requirement.

Background Info:
History: Mitsuo history link
Personality: NOTE: A fair amount of the in-canon examples I'm going to use to explain different facets of Mitsuo's personality occur after the point in the game I'm drawing him from. This is because we really only see his personality during the scenes in the TV and immediately afterward. For purposes of Velvet Key, he won't remember any of this since it hasn't happened to him yet, but it's referenced here mostly for illustrative purposes to show how he behaves in various situations.

Mitsuo Kubo is a deeply troubled youth with severe self-esteem problems. Given what little we see of him in the game and some of the dialogue that comes up in his dungeon, it can be assumed that he has an overprotective mother who shelters him and treats him like he's still a little kid. This is probably the source of his general childlike behavior and at least part of his deranged attitude toward the rest of the world, as he has most likely not learned to socialize with anyone on a higher level. Mitsuo is very direct and straightforward in his dealings with others, coming straight up to Yukiko in the midst of her friends to ask her on a date and then all but throwing a tantrum when she turns him down.

We also see evidence of this sort of behavior when he's dealing with his Shadow on the top floor of his dungeon. He is very loud and impatient with it, becoming increasingly agitated as he demands answers to his questions. When the party reaches Mitsuo to confront him about the murders, he laughs almost deliriously and claims credit for all of them. He's happy that people are talking about him and that someone is finally paying serious attention to the things that he's doing, even if it's negative attention. Despite his extreme social awkwardness, Mitsuo just wants to be noticed by others, and this finally drove him to commit murder out of a desire to have the townspeople focus on him for a change.

Mitsuo holds a strong contempt for the other people living in the town of Inaba, and he can often be found ranting about something or someone that he finds inappropriate. Early in the game, he can be found standing on the streets of the shopping district loudly complaining to anyone who will listen about the Mayumi Yamano incident. Later on, the group remembers hearing rumors of Mitsuo slandering Saki Konishi as well, saying things like people who are unfaithful or run away from their families should be killed. This general bad attitude is also the reason he eventually goes on to kill Mr. Morooka, as the man has a rather bad reputation as a teacher across several schools in the area. It's incredibly difficult for anyone to live up to Mitsuo's unrealistic standards, and he holds himself above others because of this.

Even though he isn't much of a fighter on his own, Mitsuo is also outwardly unafraid of things that would typically be viewed as threatening to normal people. Even though he doesn't know anything about the TV world, he acts more irritated than afraid of the way his Shadow behaves, and afterward when the group is interrogating him, he laughs in the face of Kanji's physical threats without even blinking twice. This also demonstrates a lack of regard for his own safety or well-being, which ties back into his lack of self-esteem. It is also possible that some of this is due to the fact that he seems to view the world as some sort of game, which is reinforced by the design of his dungeon as an old style 8-bit console RPG.

As evidenced by the few lines of dialogue we hear from Mitsuo's Shadow, the feelings he's suppressing inside are those of worthlessness and emotional stagnation. He is ignoring them so completely that his Shadow merely vanishes upon being defeated rather than turning into a Persona, as he is never able to face up to his own inner weakness. Although he has apparently gotten what he wanted in the form of attention from the town, he still feels empty and unsatisfied inside. However, he's just too absorbed in his own delusions to really admit that to himself and probably figures it's pointless anyway, so he doesn't fight it when the investigation team turns him back over to the police.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Devil
Justification: The Devil represents obstacles, hardship, and being chained down to either material goods or a particularly self-destructive and limited way of thinking. Given Mitsuo's general lack of self-esteem, defeatist personality, and extreme desire to be noticed by others at any cost, he fits the description of this Arcana quite well. He allows the difficulties in his life to utterly consume every facet of his behavior, and blames all of his problems – and those of the world in general – on external sources while refusing to acknowledge his own shortcomings. This ultimately drives him to murder, but also prevents him from facing up to his Shadow and gaining a Persona of his own like the characters in the investigation team.

Samples:
First Person Sample: http://dear-mun.livejournal.com/42194042.html
Third Person Sample: Mitsuo gritted his teeth as he stared back at the tower, fists clenched in irritation as he called forth his Persona.

"Mordred!"

Heeding his command, the dark knight appeared in front of Mitsuo, that same familiar sneer painted across his features. The boy wiped the blood from his face, flinging it at the phantasmal form of his soul's power in annoyance.

"There! You know what that is? It's blood! My blood! And if you were half the Persona you said you were, I'd never have to see it!" Mitsuo yelled, ranting and raving as was common after a crushing defeat like the one he'd just suffered. "We're going back in there, and you're going to do it right this time!"

Mordred's features scarcely changed at all, save for an almost imperceptible nod of recognition. He was still part of Mitsuo, after all, no matter how badly the boy abused him. And both knew on some level that this tirade was really just Mitsuo berating himself for his own weakness, even if he'd never admit it out loud.
